INDIANS CONSIDERING TO ESTABLISH TRAMS IN LUSAKA

STATEMENT ON INDIA’S KALPATARU POWER TRANSMISSION LIMITED FOR RELEASE TO THE MEDIA ON JUNE 14, 2017 

An Indian company, KALPATARU Power Transmission Limited, has announced that it wants to work with Zambia in establishing trams in the country’s busiest cities especially Lusaka to provide easy transportation by rail.

KALPATARU Power Transmission Limited International Railway Division Senior Engineer AKHIL KUMAR says his organization is also sending a delegation to Zambia as soon as possible to see possibilities of taking part in the KASAMA NSELUKA MPULUNGU line as well as the MUCHINJI- MPIKA line stretches that require railway connectivity.

Mr. KUMAR said this when he called on Zambia’s high Commissioner to India JUDITH KAPIJIMPANGA at the Zambian Chancery in New Delhi, India.

And Zambia’s high Commissioner to India JUDITH KAPIJIMPANGA says Government is taking serious steps to modernize existing towns and taking development to newly created districts.

Mrs. KAPIJIMPANGA says such developments as trams and railway connectivity are in line with Government’s desire to improve connectivity for goods and services to improve in the capital and other towns in the Country.

She says the letter of intent by the company has been sent to Foreign Affairs Permanent Secretary Ambassador CHALWE LOMBE who has since forwarded to the Ministry of Transport and communications.
