Former Foreign Affairs Minister Benjamin Mibenge has urged Zambian missions abroad to market the Country more aggressively this year in order to attract trade and investments.

General Mibenge who was once Commander of the combined Zambia Defence Force comprising of Zambia Army, Zambia Air Force and Zambia National Service said he was glad that Zambia remained the best investment destination of choice in Africa because of peace.

"It is gratifying to note that the year 2017 saw positive growth in the last quarter of the year as highlighted by the Central Statistical Office- CSO adding that this should be maintained this year,"  he said.

General Mibenge was speaking in New Delhi, India, when he called on Zambia's High Commissioner to India Judith Kapijimpanga at the Zambian Chancery.

"I am personally happy to note that trade between Zambia and India improved from Six Hundred and Fifty Million US Dollars ($650) in the year 2016 to Nine Hundred and Eighty Million US Dollars ($980) for the year 2017," he said.

And Zambia’s High Commissioner to India Judith Kapijimpanga says the mission was happy as it was targeting trade between Zambia and India to reach One Billion USD Dollars ($1bn) mark.

"Business visas issued to Indian traders and investors also increased from three hundred (300) in the year 2016 to five hundred and twenty (520) in the year 2017," Mrs. Kapijimpanga said.

She said the Country stood to benefit more from General Mibenge's reservoir of knowledge as he also served as Ambassador to Canada, Ethiopia and Namibia among others.

This was contained in a statement made available by First Secretary Press and Tourism at the Zambian Mission in New Delhi India, Bangwe Naviley.
